Honeytree Investment Management is thrilled to announce the addition of Peter Simmie as a Partner and shareholder. Peter will play a pivotal role in supporting the team with the research and marketing of Honeytree’s US Equity ETF (BEEZ).

Peter’s arrival coincides with Honeytree’s 5th anniversary, May 6, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the firm’s journey. With his extensive experience and expertise, Peter is poised to contribute significantly to Honeytree’s growth and success in the years ahead.

“We are delighted to welcome Peter to the team. He brings a tremendous depth of knowledge and industry experience”, says Paula Glick, Honeytree Co-Founder. “Peter’s exceptional expertise in quantamental portfolio management is a testament to his nuanced understanding of both quantitative analysis and fundamental principles. We look forward to his contributions and to the collaborative achievements ahead.”

Peter brings a wealth of experience in both public and private financial markets to Honeytree Investment Management. A graduate of the University of Manitoba, Peter earned an MBA with Beta Gamma Sigma honors from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. When he completed coursework and qualifying PhD exams, Kellogg awarded him a Master of Science in Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences.

Peter’s diverse career includes roles in academia, private equity and commercial real estate investing. He later became a portfolio manager at Nigel Stephens Counsel in Toronto. After the firm’s acquisition, Peter combined his data science and portfolio management expertise with Richard Hamm to co-found Bristol Gate Capital Partners Inc. in 2006. He developed the Bristol Gate US Equity Strategy, which was launched as an investment fund in 2009. Over the next decade, as Chief Investment Officer, Peter built a track record in large cap US Equities, growing the firm’s AUM to over $1billion USD before his retirement in December 2019. He remained on the board until 2021.

Peter has been an active community builder in non-profits, industry, and his church. He serves on the Board of the Rotary Club of Toronto and its Charitable Foundation. He was the first Canadian member of Kellogg’s Alumni Council and was subsequently nominated to the honorary Peter Henderson Society. Peter currently serves on the board of the University of Winnipeg Foundation and its investment committee, and is a former member of the board of the Portfolio Management Association of Canada.

Peter lives in Toronto with his wife, and has three daughters and 5 grandchildren.

“What differentiates Honeytree’s approach to portfolio design is its application of both financial and ESG factors from the outset to create a subset of exceptionally high-quality companies within the equity universe”, comments Peter Simmie. “From this universe, concentrated portfolios can be constructed using both traditional financial and ESG metrics with the goal of outperformance. I look forward to contributing to this rigorous, data-based discipline.”
